Canoe Cultures Vendor/artist and Artist Code of Conduct

  1. Professionalism and Conduct
    • Respectful Behaviour: Treat customers, staff, volunteers, and fellow vendor/artists with courtesy, patience, and kindness.
    • Zero Tolerance Policies: Harassment, discrimination of any kind, bullying, or abusive or vulgar language will not be tolerated.
    • Conflict Resolution: Public arguments or complaints at the market, including by social media, are prohibited. Issues should be handled directly and professionally. Management should be informed and can help.
    • Professional Appearance: Vendor/artists are expected to be well-groomed and appropriately dressed.
    • No Alcohol/Drugs: Consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs while vending is strictly prohibited.
    • No Smoking: Many markets are smoke-free, or have strict designated smoking areas. There is to be no smoking of tobacco or cannabis, or vaping of any kind, except at the designated smoking sites.
  2. Product and Sales Integrity
    • Handcrafted Only: Items must be handmade or designed by the vendor/artist. Mass-produced, factory-made, or imported items are generally prohibited.
    • Approved Items: Only items approved by the market organizers during the application process may be sold.
    • No Resale: Buying items to resell (third-party products) is generally not allowed.
    • Pricing: Prices must be clearly displayed on all items.
    • Honest Representation: Products must not be misrepresented. If an artist uses AI, they must adhere to specific, usually strict, AI disclosure policies.
    • Fair Pricing: Predatory pricing (undercutting other vendor/artists) is discouraged or banned.
  3. Booth and Stall Management
    • Setup/Tear-down: Vendor/artists must arrive on time, stay for the entire duration of the market, and not pack up early.
    • Space Limitations: Displays must fit strictly within the assigned stall area (usually 10×10).
    • Cleanliness: Vendor/artists are responsible for keeping their space clean and removing their own garbage at the end of the day.
    • Staffing: Booths must not be left unattended. Relief is available for breaks.
    • Safety: If someone is harassing or intimidating you please inform staff immediately.
  4. Legal and Safety Compliance
    • Permits and Licenses: Vendor/artists are responsible for obtaining and displaying necessary business licenses, health permits (for food), and insurance.
    • Tax Responsibility: Vendor/artists must comply with local tax regulations, including collecting and paying sales tax.
  5. Consequences for Violations
    • Warnings and Removal: Violations can result in verbal/written warnings, immediate removal from the market, or banning from future events.
    • No Refunds: If a vendor/artists removed for violating the code of conduct, they generally do not receive refunds for booth fees.
